Learn More About Lip Lift Surgery
There are a variety of lip augmentation methods available, but not all of them achieve long-lasting results. If you’ve tried fillers want more noticeable, long-lasting results, then the lip lift may be your best option.
A lip lift is a precise, artistic procedure where a small amount of skin and soft tissue below the base of the nose is removed in order to make the face look prettier and more harmonized. This technique causes the upper lip to pull upward and reveal more of the pink skin, called the vermillion. The biggest benefit of the lip lift is that it allows Dr. Gargya to achieve a look that is unique to your natural features by adjusting for different amounts of tissue, angles, and philtral length. The lip lift is also minimally invasive and comes with very little downtime or discomfort. It’s one of the best ways to achieve a naturally fuller, more luscious look to the lips.
Lip lift candidates are broadly broken into two categories. The first is patients whose distance from their nasal base to upper lip is elongated. For these patients, the lip lift is one of the best options for dramatic, long-lasting results. The face is harmonized, and these patients are often astounded by how much better it makes them look.
The second category is patients who are tired of going through the process of getting lip filler injections in their upper lip. The lip lift is essentially a ‘permanent lip filler’. It’s also an alternative to implants which can be more difficult to place and come with added risks.
One important thing to know about scars is that the more tension the skin closure is under, the worse the scar will be. The key to a great lip lift scar is surgical technique. Dr. Gargya’s incision is designed to hide in the crevices and valleys of the nasal base, making it nearly imperceptible. If you do have any visible scarring after your procedure, keep in mind that it will fade with time and can be easily concealed with makeup. A great lip lift surgery requires a lot of technical finesse, artistry, and surgical skill. Dr. Gargya’s history of performing cleft lip surgeries has made him particularly adept at this surgery.
Dr. Gargya performs lip lift surgery on awake patients. Local anesthesia is placed along the incision, so you don’t feel anything during the procedure. Some patients opt to take 10-20mg of oral valium prior to surgery and many fall asleep during the procedure because they are completely relaxed and pain-free.
The procedure is done while you’re awake and takes around one hour to perform. To begin, a tiny incision is made at the base of the nose. This incision is usually concealed within the natural crease where the nose and upper lip meet. A small amount of tissue is removed, usually in a small crescent pattern. This allows the remaining skin to be gently pulled upward and sutured in place, pulling the upper lip with it. Once the surgery is complete, you can return home.
If you opt for only local anesthetic during surgery, you can drive home – otherwise you should plan to be taken home by a responsible adult friend or family member. You should plan to take around one week away from work and social events, or until bruising and swelling subsides. You should also avoid exercise for 2-3 weeks in order to prevent complications.
You will have some swelling for which ice packs are recommended. Swelling is usually at its worst the first day after surgery. You will be given an ointment to apply on the incision line – this helps prevent infection and scarring. External sutures are removed 5-7 days after surgery, during which you’ll follow up with Dr. Gargya and our team. Some patients prefer to stick to a liquid diet immediately after surgery, as excessive chewing can cause tension on the incision. Our team will supply a detailed list of instructions and recovery tips to follow after your procedure.
The lip lift can be an excellent option if fillers aren’t achieving the results you want. The best way to explore your lip augmentation options is by consulting a board-certified plastic surgeon.
