Learn More About Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that can be used on the face, neck, neckline, arms, hands, legs, and abdomen. This treatment is great for addressing acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, and overall skin rejuvenation.

Who is a candidate?

Individuals of all skin tones and types can benefit from microneedling. Those who wish to combat signs of aging, as well as rejuvenate their complexion are often good candidates. A consultation with Dr. Shienbaum can help to determine if this treatment is right for you.

Generally, microneedling can serve as a solution to the following skin concerns:

  • Skin laxity
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Stretch marks

How is treatment done?

Prior to treatment, a topical anesthetic is applied to the targeted areas to ensure patient comfort. Microneedling utilizes a powered handpiece that creates micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This helps to improve the skin’s texture, diminish hyperpigmentation, and smooth lines and wrinkles. Most patients require a series of microneedling treatments to achieve optimal results.

Typically, microneedling treatments take between thirty minutes and an hour to complete. This service may also be combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments to achieve your ideal results.  Our Brandon Plastic Surgery office is 51 Minutes from Lakeland, 18 minutes from Tampa and 15 minutes from Riverview

Results

Following a microneedling treatment, patients can expect to experience redness in the treatment area for up to five days. A mild burning sensation, feeling of tightness, and flaking may occur during recovery. These responses are natural, normal, and temporary. Microneedling is a non-invasive procedure, and you may return to normal activities immediately if you choose.

Results will be noticeable within a couple of weeks, after time has passed to allow for new collagen to be produced. The skin should be plumper, rejuvenated, and show increased elasticity.

FAQs

Is professional microneedling the same as at-home microneedling?

At-home microneedling is usually accomplished with dermal rollers, which can drag and pull the skin. In addition, professional microneedling services can be combined with other skin rejuvenation services for enhanced results. This makes professional microneedling more effective than at-home treatments.

Does microneedling hurt?

Dr. Shienbaum uses a topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort during a microneedling service.

How should I care for my skin after receiving microneedling?

After your service, you should avoid sun exposure and use SPF daily. Otherwise, use gentle cleansers and moisturizers as your skin recovers.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of microneedling treatments you will require varies depending on your skin type and the severity of your skin concerns. Dr. Shienbaum will design a treatment plan that’s best for you.
